The Muslim Leaders of the Future (MLF) programme trains a selected group of 30 young Muslims aged 16-21 on progressive leadership and community activism. We are looking for 30 young Muslims with leadership qualities who will embark on a unique 6 months programme, packed with workshops, activities and trips.
The young Muslims will organise and deliver community events and activities giving them leadership opportunities to become positive role models to their peers and the communities they serve. At the end of the programme, you can become a member of our Birmingham Muslim Leaders of the Future network to share good practice with other like-minded young people. The leadership programme will consist of interactive workshops, visits and recreational activities. Testimonials: ‘I joined because my brother was interested and applied and when he was telling me about it, I wanted to know more. I did some research about Right Start and thought that this was an opportunity I couldn't afford to miss. When I was selected for an interview, I was delighted but I still didn't know what the course entailed. Only when I went to the first workshop, I realised how helpful the course would be to involve me in the political world. I'm very glad I joined now and I would definitely recommend it. The workshops and visits to the Commons were just amazing.....’ ‘I can't really tell you what I got from it, there's so much, but a few examples are: confidence; I am generally a confident person, however, the confidence I gained was more of an 'I can actually make a difference in the world.' I've come out of it feeling that no fight is too big, if you want to make a change, just play your part and do what you do best. leadership; even in a group of future leaders, there were many activities and exercises where I took the lead because I could put the skills I learnt from the workshop into use straightaway, and unite the group. the ability to listen; this probably sounds really cheesy but in a group of 30 vibrant, assertive and sometimes opinionated teenagers, I had to learn to control my emotions more and give others a chance to talk. Before, I had a tendency to value my own opinion and not really take in what others have to say. But to be a good leader, listening is a key skill and I hope I can implement that in the future. There is more I'd like to say but these are the main things I got out of the course’. Some of the workshops include: - Goal setting
- Communication and presentation skills
- Team work and getting the best from others
- Leadership concepts
- Take me to your leader
- Getting things done
- Personal power
- Role of power and politics
- Negotiation and persuasion
- Islamic stance on all forms of violence
Some of the activities include: - Outdoor Karting
- Blindfolding driving
- Canoeing
- Quad biking
