Right Start Foundation is proud to announce that it has been commissioned by Mentor UK to undertake a unique project to seek the views of young Muslims living in Birmingham and Tower Hamlets (London) between the ages of 12 and 18 years old.

The output of the project will be a toolkit for UK Government agencies seeking to involve young Muslims in drug prevention.

Shaukat Warraich Director said “this is a great opportunity for Young Muslims to get the views heard and acted upon. It’s a privilege to work with Mentor and we hope it’s the beginning of a fruitful partnership in the UK”.

The outcomes for the project are to:

  • Develop the skills, confidence and self esteem of young Muslims, providing them with the knowledge and skills required to make healthy life choices and play an active part in their local communities; and
  • Ensure that the views of young Muslims are heard by Mentor UK, our partners, policy makers and planners responsible for developing drug and alcohol prevention services nationally. 

You will be trained on the following courses:

  • Group work and communication
  • Confidence and self esteem
  • Drugs Prevention
  • Health promotion
  • What matters to you
  • Community participation and having your say

There will also be several practical activities, such as treasure hunts, sports, visits to the houses of parliament and many others,  some of which relating to these courses to enhance your skills and put theory into practice.

Finally the programme will end with a residential weekend away whereby you will come together to devise the toolkit based on your views and recommendations.
